La Digue, about 5km long and 3km wide, is the fourth largest on the Seychelles Plateau. It is generally considered the most beautiful of all the islands in the Seychelles. La Digue was discovered by Lazare Picault in 1744. Anse La Reunion, on the west side, is the island's longest beach. Among the favourite haunts of tourists and commercial photographers from all over the world are Grand Anse, Petite Anse and Anse Cocos on the east side and Anse la Source a Jean with the nearby rock cliffs of Pointe Source d'Argent on the west. The loveliest bay at the north end of the island is the isolated Anse Patates where tall waves sweeping in from the open sea break on the red granite rocks.
